Staying safe during fire season and power outages

May 2022 - To our Health Plan of San Joaquin/Mountain Valley Health plan ("Health Plan") members, we always have concern for your health and the safety and well-being of your family. This includes when there are disasters, such as in the California fire season. We ask you to:

Keep with you your prescribed meds and charged or battery reliant health care tools
Keep your Health Plan ID card and Medi-Cal Benefits Card with you
In a disaster, you can get any of this local help, FREE, with no prior Health Plan say so:
- ER hospital care
- Urgent Care
- Drug store fills of prescribed meds

Know Your Colors - Protect your health from California Fire Season Deadly Smoke

High temperatures can affect your health and safety. Remember these tips during extremely hot days:

Stay hydrated – drink lots of water
Limit outdoor activities during the hottest times of the day (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
Wear protective clothing to avoid sunburns and heat-related illnesses
Wear sunglasses with 100% UV protection
Wear wide-brimmed hats to protect head and face
Use sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher and make sure to reapply as needed
Tips to avoid heat stroke and treat heat-related illnesses
Find a cooling center in your area
